Artist Statement
Trauma lives in the body; internalized in both physical and emotional ways-- there is a misconception that as an event it is dramatic and singular. It can be small, tiny, moments that build up or wear down; like water erosion or stalagmites. Fantasy and escapism are coping mechanisms part of the Queer experience and in my youth I used Sailor Moon and other such bishoujo as a tool in self-care. Through a combination of graphic arts and dance I am culling from personal narratives to create work that comment on mental health, the body, queerness, and latinidad.
